Environment is our home, that needs to be treat well or we risk loosing it.
What do we mean when we talk about environment?
First of all we pay attention to its problems.
Main environmental problems are air pollution, global warming, energy crisis, deforestation, endangered species etc.
Any of them concerns each of us because we live on the one planet.
Air pollution is a problem of big cities. It causes by increasing number of cars and waste of industrial plants and factories.
As result it turns into destroying ozone layer and global warming, having a bad effect on the climate of Earth.
Another big environmental problem is growth of Earth’s population. It causes energy crisis and lack of food and mineral recourses. In future the problem will grow worse if people do not find ways to use the alternative power like solar, for example, or learn how to stop Third World hunger.
One more of the actual problems are deforestation and illegal hunting. Both mean to leave our planet without its main recourses – flora and fauna.
These problems are global but we can help to save the planet taking care of our local environment.

Our planet is in danger. It becomes more and more polluted every year. In addition, the ozone layer becomes thinner and this may lead to many phenomena, like acid rains, that may destroy our planet and our lives.
And we all know that the main reason why the Earth suffers is us. We pollute the air, the water; cause the extinction of animals and plants. However, we are still capable of saving our planet and species we share it with.
There are several measures we may implement. First of all, we should not throw any garbage and all countries must work the system of recycling garbage out. If we all get used to sorting it, we will simplify the process of recycling.
In addition, we may use modern technologies to invent a new kind of petrol to substitute oil with it. We can also try to use cars less and walk or ride a bicycle to move around the city.
In order to save animals, we must protect them better from poachers: build national parks, organize special groups and funds which will take care of animals and find investors to supply our wild neighbours with food. We should also breed animals not to let any species disappear.
Moreover, more trees, bushes, flowers must be planted. They clean the air and serve as a home for many animals, birds, and insects.
Summing up, we have the power to make the Earth a better place to live and we must use this power to prevent the damage we inflict by our modern activities.

I think, there are some steps that could help people to improve the things. The first that we are able to do is to change the way of life. In my opinion, we should begin with something very simple. For example, start using public transport instead of our cars, we can use glass and wood instead of plastic, it will be effective organize planting of the trees and renovation of the parks.

If people realize the size of the problem and all the possible consequences, there will be an encouragement for them to take some measures.

All that we need is to have the desire to improve the situation and to stop being lazy.

Our planet Earth is only a tiny part of the universe, but nowadays it"s the only place where we can live.
People always polluted their surroundings. But until now pollution was not such a serious problem. People lived in rural areas and did not produce such amount of polluting agents that would cause a dangerous situation in global scale.
With the development of overcrowded industrial highly developed cities, which put huge amounts of pollutants into surrounds, the problem has become more and more dangerous. Today our planet is in serious danger. Acid rains, global warming, air and water pollution, and overpopulation are the problems that threaten human lives on the Earth.
In order to understand how air pollution affects our body, we must understand exactly what this pollution is. The pollutants that harm our respiratory system are known as particulates. Particulates are the small solid particles that you can see through rays of sunlight. They are products of incomplete combustion in engines, for example: internal-combustion engines, road dust and wood smoke.
Billions of tons of coal and oil are consumed around the world every year. When these fuels are burnt, they produce smoke and other by-products, which is emitted into the atmosphere. Although wind and rain occasionally wash away the smoke, given off by power plants and automobiles, but it is not enough.. These chemical compounds undergo a series of chemical reactions in the presence of sunlight; as a result we have smog, mixture of fog and smoke. While such pollutants as particulates we can see, other harmful ones are not visible. Among the most dangerous to bur health are carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide and ozone or active oxygen.
If you have ever been in an enclosed parking garage or a tunnel and felt dizzy or lightheaded, then you have felt the effect of carbon monoxide (CO). This odourless, colourless, but poisonous gas is produced by the incomplete burning of fossil fuels, like gasoline or diesel fuel.
Factories emit tons of harmful chemicals. These emissions have disastrous consequences for our planet. They are the main reason for the greenhouse effect and acid rains.
Our forests are disappearing because they are cut down or burnt. If this trend continues, one day we won"t have enough oxygen to breathe, we won"t see a beautiful green forest at all.
The seas are in danger. They are filled with poison: industrial and nuclear wastes, chemical fertilizers and pesticides. If nothing is done about it, one day nothing will be able to live in our seas.
Every ten minutes one kind of animal, plant or insect dies out forever. If nothing is done about it, one million species that are alive today may soon become extinct.
And even greater threats are nuclear power stations. We all know how tragic the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster are.
Fortunately, it"s not too late to solve these problems. We have the time, the money and even the technology to make our planet a better, cleaner and safer place. We can plant trees and create parks for endangered animals.
We can recycle our wastes; persuade enterprises to stop polluting activities, because it is apparent that our careless use of fossil fuels and chemicals is destroying this planet. And it is now more than ever apparent that at the same time we are destroying our bodies and our future.

Сегодня наша планета находится в серьезной опасности. Кислотные дожди, глобальное потепление, загрязнение воздуха и воды, перенаселенность - проблемы, которые угрожают человеческой жизни на Земле.
Чтобы понять, как загрязнение атмосферы воздействует на наш организм, мы должны точно знать, каково это загрязнение. Загрязняющие вещества, которые вредят нашей дыхательной системе называются макрочастицами. Макрочастицы - это мелкие твердые частицы, которые мы видим на солнечном свету. Это производные неполного сгорания топлива в двигателях, например двигателе внутреннего сгорания, дорожная пыль и дым от сгорания древесины.
Миллиарды тонн угля и нефти сжигаются во всем мире каждый год. Когда это топливо сгорает, оно выбрасывает дым и другие побочные продукты в окружающую среду. Хотя ветер и дождь иногда смывают дым, выделенный силовыми установками и автомобилями, этого не достаточно. Эти химические элементы под воздействием солнечного света подвергаются серии химических реакций, и как результат мы имеем смог, смесь тумана и дыма. К счастью, еще не поздно и мы можем решить эти проблемы. Мы имеем время, деньги и технологии, чтобы сделать нашу планету лучше, чище и безопаснее. Мы можем высаживать деревья и создавать парки для животных, находящихся в опасности.
Мы можем перерабатывать отходы, убедить предпринимателей прекратить загрязнение окружающей среды, так как ясно, что наше безрассудное использование топлива и химических веществ разрушает нашу планету и более того, ясно и то, что мы разрушаем себя и свое будущее.

Importance of environmental protection
I suppose that enviromental protection is one of the most major problem in our modern world. With middle of XX century people’s negative influence on the planet increased. Many of us think that nature resources doesn’t limit and don’t care about it.
Today we have so much kinds of pollution: air, water, soil, noise, nuclear polutions. Each of these are very dangerous for our health. Many diseaseses are becauce of enviromental polutions, and reasons of it are we ourself. There are many others problems besides illnesses. Some animals are an endangered spicies, for example the giant panda. In many regions water in rivers, lakes is very soiled with toxic waste of plants. In summer we can’t swim here, because this is very hazardous. Reasons of air polution are vehicle emissions and plant’s discharges. In megalopolises people live in regular smog, ozone holes are created too. Examples of soil polution are forest fires and rubbish dumps out of the city. There were some nuclear accidents on the planet, which have very serious consequences. Now we have hard situation in Japan.
There are many groups and organisation, which are care about enviroment. Greenpeace is one of them. It has offices in more than 40 countries. Members of this global organisation try to find solution of enviromental problems in the world. They care about all spheres of pollution. In many countries government draws people’s attention to problems of environment. For example in Russia we have community work day. In this day everybody tidy streets, take away rubbish,plant trees and shrubs. In my opinion it is very wholesome tradition.
In conclusion I want to say that we must to save nature resources and reduse pollutions. We are friends of our planet, because it is our home.
Я считаю что защита окружающей среды является одной из самых важнейших проблем в нашем обществе. С середина XX века негативное влияние людей на планету возросло. Многие из нас думают, что природные ресурсы безграничны и не волнуются об этом.
В наше время существует большое количество видов загрязнений: воды, воздуха, земли, шумовое и радиоактивное. Каждое из них очень опасно для нашего здоровья. Многие болезни являются результатом загрязнения окружающей среды, и причина этому мы сами. Существует множество и других проблем кроме болезней. Некоторые животные на грани исчезновения, например гигантская панда. Во многих регионах вода в реках и озерах сильно загрязнена токсичными отходами заводов. Летом мы не можем покупаться, потому что это очень опасно. Причины загрязнения воздуха - это выхлопы машин и отходы заводов. В мегаполисах люди живут в постоянном смоге, также образуются озоновые дыры. Примерами загрязнения земли являются лесные пожары и мусорные свалки за пределами городов. На нашей планете происходили и радиоактивные аварии, которые имели серьезные последствия. Сложная ситуация сейчас сложилась в Японии.
Существует большое количество групп и организаций, которые заботятся об окружающей среде. Гринпис одна из них. Её филиалы располагаются в более чем сорока странах. Сотрудники этой всемирной организации стараются найти решение проблемы защиты окружающей среды. Они заботятся о всех сферах загрязнений. Во многих странах правительство привлекает внимание людей к проблемам окружающей среды. Например у нас в России - это субботник. В этот день все убирают улицы, собирают мусор и высаживают деревья, кустарники. По-моему мнению это очень хорошая традиция.
В заключении я хочусказать мы должны сохранять природные ресурсы и уменьшать загрязнения. Мы друзья планеты, потому что это наш дом.
